A SURROGATE'S DOWNFALLChapter OneThe thoughts of yesterday's event flashed through maximillan's mind, making his headache even worse than it was earlier. It was supposed to be the happiest day of his life but that crashed pretty quickly.He let out a groan as he rubbed his temple.He was supposed to be married, be on his way to an island to celebrate his honeymoon like most newlyweds.But right now, he was more miserable than ever and nothing seems to be right with him anymore. All he felt is emptiness and the deep rooted fear of losing someone he once loved so dearly.Amanda was his fiance, and someone he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, he would have done anything to make her happy knowing that she was the only one for him.Too bad her true colors showed late and at a worse time.The universe seems to be laughing at him right now, nothing was going his way and it was beginning to piss him off.Right now, Max couldn't leave the office, the paparazzi hounded him everywhere he turned to. He was so used to keeping his life private, who knows dating and wanting to marry a socialite would cause you your privacy.He did everything Amanda wanted because she liked the spotlight, if he knew it would come back to bite him in the ass then he would have stopped it when it was still premature.The whole country knows about the breakup between his supposed fiance, but the worst is that they think he is a monster because she told them false stories and painted max as the bad person, spoiling the heart of those that love and admire him.He can still hear whispers in the office when he walk by, they think he am a cold, ruthless billionaire who gets what he went irrespective of who he hurts in the process. They have never been more wrong.She lied about who the main cheat was, she stole money from him causing his company to go under that he had to employ his quick thinking abilities to save the company from going bankrupt.Max couldn't keep himself from controlling his thoughts, it kept going back to the humiliating day and the stares of those that looked at him for an explanation, being at work wasn't exactly easy either.Yes, he threw himself into work after the whole ordeal but that was because he needed to undo the mess she has done. He couldn't concentrate on the papers in front of him.He sipped his coffee, tapping his hands on the table with the other, he felt as miserable as the taste of coffee.There was a knock on the door and he looked up sharply, "come in," he called out to whoever that was.Amelia, his gorgeous assistant walked in with her fitted dress making her look gracious as always, she has always been beautiful but today made her look exceptional in my eyes.It could be the strong taste of coffee speaking. "Sir, we have an issue", she said making him fret, "What would that be? Amelia", he asked her,He knew that it wouldn't be good news, she had the expression she normally wears when she wants go tell him something bad.He sighed, motioning her to speak up."Some of your biggest fans have turned against you, they are outside the company, and are with signboards claiming you're a cheat and a rapist," she paused to breath before she continued... "I assume, your ex fiancee would be behind all of this. She wants you to lose your reputation by lying to the people. The protesters are cursing very loudly and claim they want to see you, they are saying all sort of things Sir, I suggest you do something as soon as possible.", She said leaving me in total shock. Max didn't know how to feel, he was confused and pained at the same time. He had no idea that it would get to the extent that he would start defending his reputation and honor because he made the mistake of loving someone.He turned to look at his assistant, " what do we do?" He asked her,She shrugged, already prepared to give him a piece of her mind, "you should have a press conference, deny those allegations and let them keep guessing. You already know that having those accusations out there is affecting the company and in a bad way. Let's stop this while we still have the time." She said.He nodded, he agreed with her, it was necessary to cut the head of the snake.Investors would soon start pulling out once they hear this, some of them have gone ahead to motion his removal from the board.Not that he was going to let it happen, he started this company from the scratch and he wasn't going to let some two coming wench take that away from him."Are you okay, sir?" She asked him,He appeared deep in thoughts and she could only imagine what was going on in that head of his.A look of sympathy passed her face, she felt so bad for him.All he did was fall in love and now this was happening, it was like the karma of all bad karma.He was quite the playboy when he was younger, so it's not surprising that this would happen to him.He seemed to be taking the burnt of it, the gossips, the lies, the future of this company was going downhill fast.Everything seemed to be happening at once."Prepare the conference," he said.She looked up sharply, "excuse me?" Her mind was far away."Prepare the conference," he said slowly this time like he was talking to a child.She was tempted to roll her eyes at him but refrained herself, just because he is going through something doesn't mean he gets to act like an ass.
