Chapter 1

"Les is really handsome," Airin said in a soft voice while looking at the man practicing on the open court. She placed both of her arms on the table in front of her. She then put her head in her hands and then let out a sigh. "Look at his muscles. Fuck. He looks so delicious enough to eat. Rawr. And even though he's sweaty, he looks like he still smells good."
Airin was currently here at the open court of Saint Vincent University. She’s currently taking the course Accountancy in the said university. She is in her fourth year and is expecting to graduate this school year.
The various sports club of SVU are practicing here on the open court and during this time, it was the tennis club who occupies the court. But oftentimes, it was always the tennis club who uses the open court.
What Airin has been watching before (watching, okay, not stalking) is her ultimate crush, Alessandro Crawford or Les to his friends. And because they are close (in her dream, actually), she also calls the man, Les.
Les is a member of the SVU tennis club. Aside from his handsome face, he is very popular with SVU for his tennis skills. Many female students at SVU like Les because of that. And of course, she was one of them.
But that wasn't the sole reason why Airin liked Les. Okay, she likes him because he's handsome and a good tennis player but she also likes Les because he's not arrogant unlike some other varsity players. Les is down-to-earth despite his achievements. He’s also not like some other varsity players who have empty brain (not that she’s saying the others are stupid, okay). Les was not careless with his studies. In fact, he is a consistent Dean’s Lister.
How did Airin find out all of this? Simple. She was researching. That's really research, not stalking. Airin is great when it comes to things like this. Because of her so-called research, she learned so many things about Les (which in the end were public knowledge so there’s nothing wrong with her knowing them).
His full name was Alessandro Crawford, the youngest son of Menard and Sandra Crawford. He has an older brother (an alumni of SVU and a popular drummer as well) named Alexander Crawford. Les was currently on his fifth year taking Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Like her, he is graduating this year as well. He is a member of the tennis club and he is the vice-captain there.
In the physical portion, oh my God, she is able to recite them even with her eyes closed because she has already memorized the whole form of Les.
Les was tall. His height was around 5'11" the last time Airin checked. Maybe it's because he has foreign blood. Les is half Filipino-half American. He is fair-skinned even when he’s exposed to the sun for a long time. His skin is still fair and oftentimes, it's just turning red because of the heat. His nose is sculpted well paired with red lips that look like it's delicious to kiss. But Les' greatest asset is the blue eyes he inherited from his father.
His blue eyes were captivating. Added by the fact that it was framed with thick and long lashes that made her green with envious.
It was his eyes that made Airin fell in crush with him.
All in all, she will give Les a perfect ten points when it comes to his physical attributes.
"I knew it, you’re still here, once again. There’s no surprise here," said the voice causing Airin to shrug. Add that she was surprised because something fell in front of her.
Airin turned to the speaker and the one who greeted her was her friendly friend, Skye. Skye was a classmate in her first year of college but she shifted course. From Accountancy, she shifted to Fine Arts because that’s where her heart truly lies, Skye said. Despite this, the two remained friends. In fact, she can be considered her best friend.
"Don’t you have a class, Skye?" She raised an eyebrow at her friend as Skye sat down next to her.
"No. And why are you not in your class? Of course, you’re still staring at Alessandro, Airin Nessa! I told you to stop doing it but alas, you’re still blinded by his face. Don’t you have a life?” she said as if she was her mother. Her eyes were also reproaching her.
Airin just grunted as an answer to Skye. She focused her eyes on Les who is now on the court and his teammate Cloud is up against him. Doubles game is Les' forte and his doubles teammate is always Cloud but not once does he practice the Singles game. According to some people she asked, the coach of the tennis club wanted the club members to be flexible that was why they changed the practice mode of the players.
Les and Cloud have been dubbed as the Golden Duo throughout SVU because of the perfect tandem of the two when it comes to playing tennis.
"I also don't have a class, okay? So I'm free to stare and stare at Les all day long. And for your information, my life is fine. It's so good, that sometimes I want to mess it up just for the sake of it. Cool, isn't it?" Airin teases Skye but she still can't take her eyes off of Les.
She could not look away from Les. She was watching his every step, his every move, as if she was in trance.
"You're in a bad place, Airin. I didn't think the time would come when I would see you like that because of a man. How old are you, eh?"
Even without looking, she knew her friend was shaking her head right now.
Even Airin can’t believe that she will be obsessed over a man so much. After all, in the previous years, her life was revolving around studying and reading books. If not books related to her studies, she’s reading romance novels.
But when she met Les, she had nothing more to say but Les, Les, and Les. She sees no one but Les. She knew no one but Les. Her heart was screaming for nothing but Les' name. It seems as if she knew no other name aside from Les.
She’s not obsessed, okay. She just really admires Les. It was the first time Airin felt something like this, that was why she did not know how to tone down this crushy feeling.
"It's different, friend. I think I'm in love, think I'm in love, with Les. Every single day, every single night, I want to spend them all, with Les," she sang then smiled. "I even sang out of nowhere." Skye suddenly punched her light in the arm. She turned her head to her friend. “Why are you hurting me, huh, Skye? Can’t you just accept the fact that your one and only best friend is in love?”
She let out a sigh of relief then looked at her closely. "Love right away? Hey, Airin, you're just infatuated with Les. You only met him yesterday, then you’re saying you are in love with him? You're too exaggerated! You’re such a dreamer."
"You're the exaggerated one! What do you mean it happened yesterday? I've known him for three months, duh. Three months but it's as if I've known him since forever," she said sadly. "If this isn't love, then what is this?"
"You've never been in love, Airin, so how can you be sure that you really love Les and this is not just an infatuation? You said so yourself that you've only known him for three months. In those three months, have the two of you talked? No, right? You are just admiring him from afar.”
Airin folded her arms around herself as she glared at her friend. Skye has a point, but! She wasn’t hearing her. So there.
“If you didn’t bump into him and if you did not act like a fool, you might have graduated and all and you will still not meet him,” Skye continued.
Airin was suddenly stunned and then thought that Skye was right. Airin hasn't been in love yet so she's also not sure about her feelings for Les. But whatever her feelings are, she would simply enjoy this by looking at Les from afar.
Because if it wasn't for her collision with Les before, she wouldn't have known that there was an Alessandro Crawford roaming around SVU.
But maybe it was destiny. It was destiny that made it possible for them to meet each other on that fateful day...
